Not all car accidents are identical

A crash or accident reflects generic terms that describe numerous vehicle collisions. They may range in severity, and some incidents on New Jersey roads could leave victims with worse injuries than others. Drivers should be careful to avoid reckless behaviors because there are many ways vehicles may collide with one another if drivers are not careful.

Car accident incidents

Two of the more common collisions that come to mind are rear-end and head-on ones. Rear-end collisions often result in whiplash, and head-on collisions come with a significant chance of catastrophic injuries. That said, how fast the vehicles travel and other factors contribute to how severe the injuries are. For example, a large truck could run over a smaller one from behind, leading to fatal results.

Side-swipe and side-impact collisions may result in injuries or property damage. Side swipes involve the vehicles’ sides scrapping against one another, while side-impact crashes make a T-bone shape. Side-impact crashes could highlight injuries when a car’s front crashes into another vehicle’s driver or passenger door.

Reckless accidents

Legal questions arise about why motor vehicle accidents happen. If negligence played a part, expect the victims to file a legal claim. Moving violations may establish negligence in a civil auto accident claim. Speeding, tailgating, and weaving through lanes fall under the umbrella of reckless driving. If a driver does not put safety first and causes a crash, the driver could be liable for hospital bills, lost wages, and other losses.

An insurance settlement might cover the losses suffered in a vehicle crash. Some may sue for punitive damages when the negligent driver behaves highly recklessly. Awards could be substantial when negligence leads to catastrophic or fatal injuries.
